How to Color Grade Sony S-Log3 Footage for a Cinematic Look

Shooting in S-Log3 gives you incredible dynamic range, but grading it can be tricky. It often looks flat and lifeless out of the camera. The key to unlocking its potential is a proper color management workflow.

1. Proper Exposure

Always expose your S-Log3 footage slightly to the right (ETTR). This minimizes noise in the shadows when you bring the contrast back.

2. Conversion to Rec.709

Use a high-quality conversion LUT or Color Space Transform (CST) node in DaVinci Resolve. This establishes your baseline contrast and saturation.

3. Applying the Creative Look

Once converted, you can safely apply your creative LUTs. Browse our Cinematic Essentials collection to find the perfect starting point!
